Debunking the Myths Everyone Believes About Their California Car Insurance Policy

Do you know that there are probably almost as many myths floating around about your California car insurance coverage as there are about the Lochness monster? Seriously! Nessie has got nothing on the misapprehensions of the average car insurance shopper. As part of our dedicated service to our customers we decided we had an obligation to go through and run our own mythbusters program.
Yes ladies and gentlemen, QuoteScout is debunking the most common myths of the car insurance industry. Strap on your seatbelts and hold on tight. It's gonna be a bumpy ride.

The Most Common Myths Gullible Shoppers Swallow Whole When Shopping for California Car Insurance

1) Red cars cost more to insure. It's not the color of your car, it's the foot on the gas. Seriously. While the make and model of your car might have an effect on your car insurance rates (for example, it costs a whole lot more to insure a Porsche than a Kia because they cost more to replace and get ripped off more often) you insurer could care less what color you decide to paint it.

2) Thieves prefer to steal new cars, so you don't have to worry about carrying comprehensive coverage for your older vehicle. Okay, first and foremost, why on earth would you ever be driving around without comprehensive car insurance coverage anyway? It's almost always a bad idea. Unless you've got enough money lying around to arbitrarily buy a new car anytime you feel like it and you don't mind losing the investment you already made in your car you're going to regret not carrying comprehensive if something does happen.

That said, statistics show that thieves actually prefer to steal cars that are between five to ten years old, older in some cases if the make and model are popular. So you're not helping anyone by dropping your comprehensive coverage.

3) If you're driving a sports car you're going to pay more for your insurance coverage. Ehhhh….yes and no. This isn't true 100% of the time, and if a driver is paying more for the sports car you can almost guarantee it has nothing to do with the belief that the California car insurance industry automatically penalizes people driving sports cars because they think they're more likely to be in an accident.

4) Parking tickets will hurt my car insurance rates. All right guys, it's time for the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. The chances of any California car insurance provider caring one way or the other what happened when you were parked are slim to none unless your license gets suspended for not paying your fines. Breathe in, breathe out and relax.

5) One speeding ticket will make me a high risk driver. Okay, do you have any idea how easy it is to get a speeding ticket? You can have the squeakiest driving record on the planet and a moment of inattention will land you squarely in the headlights of the nearest copper. Most car insurance companies know this, and they'll forgive you for it. Especially if you take a driver improvement class and get it swabbed off your record. In that case what they don't know won't hurt you.
